the easy way to add storage to any network

snap_serversOverview

HillSouth carries the entire lineup of Snap Server network attached storage devices.  These devices carry a number of features that make adding, administering, and even affording additional storage capacity a very easy process.  Contact us, and browse around the Adobe Acrobat files available that detail the success stories of Quantum's Snap Server.

Why a Snap Server Instead of an NT or NetWare File Server?
If you are considering purchasing a file server to increase file storage capacity on your network, a Snap Server can be a cost-effective and efficient alternative. Why? A Snap Server saves you time and money, yet delivers reliability, performance and connectivity as a general-purpose file server.

Engineered for One Purpose
Hard to believe? Not when you understand that the Snap Server has been engineered for one purpose only: network file sharing. For example, the Snap Server is not an application server and it does not perform network directory services. But if you already have an NT or NetWare server, we believe a Snap Server is your best alternative for supplying additional network storage. Can Install in Five Minutes. Snap Servers come in 20GB, 40GB, 80GB, 160GB, 300GB and 900GB models, all of which deliver revolutionary benefits: you plug in the power, plug in the RJ-45 Ethernet connector and turn on the Snap Server. The 10/100 Ethernet connection detects the appropriate network bandwidth, and the Snap Server automatically responds and connects to all client protocols. There is no need for additional configuration of other servers or clients on your network.

Multi-platform File Sharing
The Snap Server delivers full multi-platform file sharing from the moment you turn it on in mixed environments including:

  • Windows NT
  • NetWare
  • UNIX
  • Linux
  • Macintosh

It also provides network security integration with NT domain and NetWare bindery.

Throughput Performance
Snap Servers provide throughput performance comparable with traditional file servers, even under high loads. And because the Snap Server is a closed system tuned for a single purpose, it is extremely reliable.

Lower Purchase Cost
Snap Servers offer radically lower purchase cost and total cost of ownership compared to traditional file servers capable of performing the same functions. Snap Servers also have minimal administrative overhead. And unlike NT or NetWare servers, Snap Servers come with an unlimited user license.

options chart

The following chart illustrates a few key considerations when evaluating different methods of increasing network storage.

There are two traditional options for expanding network storage:
1) adding hard drives to an existing server or
2) adding a new file server to the LAN.

Easier than adding a hard disk
Snap Servers offer radically lower purchase cost and total cost of ownership compared to traditional file servers capable of performing the same functions. Snap Servers also have no additional administrative overhead. And unlike NT or NetWare servers, Snap Servers come with an unlimited user license.

Adding hard drives into an existing file server necessitates technical expertise, and the risk of extended network downtime if the process doesn't go as smoothly as anticipated. Snap Servers rarely involve network downtime.

Lower cost & less hassle than adding a server
Adding another traditional file server to a network involves considerable expense above the cost of the basic server hardware: additional controller cards, monitor, keyboard and operating system software licenses. Plus, there's the administration overhead associated with adding another traditional server to the network. Snap Servers are self-contained, require no additional software licenses, and are virtually maintenance-free after initial installation and set up.

Superior to other NAS products
Evaluate two key areas when comparing other NAS products to the Snap Server:
1) Snap Servers are configured to support Microsoft, NetWare, Macintosh and UNIX/Linux clients simultaneously.
2) Using the Ziff-Davis NetBench test, Snap Servers show robust performance under extended load with an excess of fifteen clients. Some NAS products perform well with five or six clients, but often have severe problems handling over fifteen clients.
